![]() Programme in Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut The Alberta, NWT and Nunavut Division of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Young Canadians Challenge is led by volunteer members of The Alberta Provincial Council. Mr. James Walls is the current President and Mr. Michael Gray is the Executive Director. National Office The National Office is situated in Toronto, Ontario. In conjunction with the Provinces and Territories, known as Divisions, the National office is responsible for delivering the Award Programme to over 40,000 young people across Canada. Programme in Canada In Canada, The Award is chaired by the Governor General of Canada, currently Her Excellency The Right Honourable Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean. Today, the National Council of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Young Canadians Challenge, have been licenced as a National Award Authority (NAA). They are responsible for the operation of the Award within Canada. There are 18 members on the council. The council is composed of divisional presidents and members at large from across the country. Mr. Kevin Malone of Ontario is the National President. Mr. Rick Ashbee is the National Executive Director and the national office is located in Toronto, Ontario. There are 10 Divisions within Canada. Each Division is overseen by a council which meets on a regular basis to insure the Division is working effectively within the National and International guidelines. The divisional presidents are members of the National Council. Each of the divisional councils also employ full time staff person(s) who work on delivering the program to the young people of the country. Participation rates in each of the Divisions varies. Canada and The International Award Association (IAA) Canada is committed to playing a role in helping to develop the Award internationally. Canada for many years was the North American representative on the International Council. As well, Canada has actively participated in international conferences including Forum 2000 in Cape Town, South Africa and the first ever conference of the Americas in Florida.
