The Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Young Canadians Challenge is designed to encourage young people,
ages 14 - 25, to endeavor to be the best they can be at each of the three Award levels – Bronze,
Silver and Gold. This Award Programme strives to help young people focus in social development
and individual challenges in the areas of skill development, health and fitness, in caring for
their environment and in contributions to their community.
This International Award Programme operates worldwide in over 110 countries. It was introduced
into Canada in 1963 and began in Nova Scotia in 1972. Thousands of Canadians have made a
difference to their own lives and their communities by achieving the Bronze, Silver, and/or Gold
