Adventurous Journey

"Being away from the city and all of life's 'comforts' for four days made me appreciate both nature as well as the city in many ways; each has its benefits and beauties."
-Gold Award Achiever, Grade 12, Whitby, Ontario

Adventurous Journey

To develop self-reliance by undertaking an interesting journey of discovery. To encourage participants to develop an awareness of the natural environment and the importance of protecting it during the Adventurous Journey.

***The Adventurous Journey section requires that you complete preliminary training, a practice journey and a qualifying journey at EACH level.***

An Adventurous Journey can be made up of any one of the three following options (read below or click info sheet for more detailed information):

Expeditions (A trip with a purpose): A journey where participants stay at a different campsite every night. Modes of travel could include biking, hiking, canoeing etc). Expeditions do not need to be approved by the Ontario Office before they are carried out. (You do not need to have Expeditions approved by the Ontario office.)

  • Bronze - two days including one night away
  • Silver - three days including two nights away
  • Gold - four days including three nights away

At the Silver and Gold levels you are also welcome to choose to do:

Explorations* (a purpose with a trip): This would make use of a base camp, as long as their purpose involves some aspect of the natural environment (flora, fauna, or landforms) or it may be historic in nature.*

Adventurous Projects*: journey that does not fit the description of an Exploration or an expedition, or may include some elements of both.*

* All Explorations and Adventurous Projects must be pre-approved by the Ontario Office (EXPEDITIONS do not need to be pre-approved). See links below for proposal forms.
