Nippon Maru

The Canadian Alumni association for the Ship For World Youth is looking for 11 young Canadians (18-30 years of age) to represent Canada on the Nippon Maru (Japan’ flag ship) as it sails the Indian ocean for two months from early January to early March.  On the ship will also be delegations from about 12 other countries, and 120 from Japan.  This program is paid for by Japan, and co-sponsored by the United Nations and its University campus in Tokyo.  It is in every way a life altering opportunity, and an amazing feeling to get to represent Canada on an international stage.  We are also looking for 1 Canadian who is age 30 to be the National Leader on this expedition.

Feb 10 - April 7

Youth Challenge International Grenada (more info) Ages 18-28, 7 week program

Join a team of volunteers and travel to Grenada to work with local people on community based projects. Live and work without the benefit of traditional support networks. Discover the key principles of sound community
development and learn from local leaders who are making a difference.

Pool your energy and talents in a team of motivated international volunteers and travel to Grenada to work with local people on community-based projects. Projects are identified at the grass-roots level by community groups and cooperating organizations. YCI volunteers are engaged to augment the efforts of local stakeholders and community groups.

Cost: $3150 plus air fare

March 13 - 17

Personal Challenge and Leadership at Kinark

For Silver and Gold participants, this residential project will take place at the Kinark Outdoor Centre, in Minden, Ontario.

The program will guide participants through a series of personal challenge initiatives, and leadership development activities in addition to winter skill development including, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter camping, and navigation, as well as a high ropes experience.

Program cost is $370.00 per person, which includes, transportation from Toronto, guides, food, and group equipment. Maximum number of participants is 12.

Quest for Liquid Gold Residential

Quest for Liquid Gold, "The Maple Sugar Bush comes to life" - This five-day project involves you living and working in a sugar bush. You will learn the history of maple syrup. You will tap trees, collect sap and produce your own syrup. But that's not all. You will also be given an opportunity to teach others.  The bush you will be working in is a demonstration bush that caters to the public and hosts school tours to children and to ELC (English as a 2nd language) class's. You will be given the opportunity to work as a guide. This project could also count toward your community service hours. Topics include: History of maple syrup production, sugar bush management, maple syrup production, communication, tour guiding, Time - March 13 - 17, 2006

Peacekeeper Park - for Gold participants

Peacekeeper Park is located near London, Ontario - www.peacekeeperpark.com

The summer of 2006, PKP will be running two - one week special needs adventure camps.  As well we have a two week Leaders in Training Camp to offer to the youth. Each camp will accept a maximum 25 youth with special needs.  The campers will have the opportunity to experience a summer adventure camp of hiking, canoeing, cycling, camp skills and abseil tower. We are looking for DEA participants who would like to volunteer their time as Camp Counselors and be role models and mentors to our campers. We also

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in collaboration with Canada World Youth (www.cwy-jcm.org) is providing an opportunity for young people to participate in community development initiatives during a 2 week residential project to Costa Rica .As part of a group, you will travel overseas, live with a host family, carry-out meaningful volunteer work, and discover a new culture and environment.  Volunteerism and cultural immersion are central components of this program – helping you to acquire overseas work experience and the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed to become an active and engaged global citizen.
