Seneca College

Seneca College, 13990 Dufferin Street North, King City Ontario
The campus is on 700 acres of forest land approximately 40 minutes north of Toronto. It is 2 kms north on Dufferin Street from King Side Road in King City. Directions:
-From Hwy 400, exit King Side Road (north of Canada's Wonderland) and drive
EAST for approximately 5 kms to Dufferin Street. At Dufferin, turn left or NORTH for 2 kms.
-From Hwy 404, exit Bloomington Side Road (in Oak Ridges)
and drive west to Dufferin Street. At Dufferin, turn right or NORTH for 1 km.

At the entrance of the School is a large sign that reads "Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology" Drive down this road past the security booth (the ground are patrolled 24 hrs/day). We are meeting in the parking lot immediately right (north) of the booth.

***The Adventurous Jouney section requires that you complete preliminary training, a practice journey and a qualifying journey at EACH level.***

Preliminary Training: 10 am to 3 pm
Purpose: Preliminary Training is the first step in the Expedition phase. This gives the participant the opportunity to learn about many facets of camping in a controlled setting. Topic covered are listed in pages 34, 45 and 57 in the blue record book.
What to bring: Blue record book, lunch, any extra snacks , sun-screen, water to drink, and $25.00 (Cheques made out to Seneca College or cash). Please dress for the weather. We will participate rain or shine.


Practice Trips: 10 am to 3 pm
Purpose: The intent of activity is to prepare you for an overnight journey so please come prepared as you would for a longer trip.
What to bring: If you are hiking bring a backpack / daypack filled with your sleeping bag, clothing and any camping equipment you may have. You should also be wearing the same shoes and similar clothing that you will be during the overnight. Blue record book, lunch, any extra snacks , sun-screen, water to drink, and cash or a cheque made out to Seneca College for the appropriate amount (depending on the duration of the practice trip). Please dress for the weather. We will participate rain or shine. Seneca will provide you with the necessary items if you do not have them


Overnight Qualifying Trips: 1 pm Saturday to 3 pm Sunday
Basic agenda for the Trip: We will be arriving in at Seneca on Saturday afternoon. We will begin hiking along trails at the college as well as on the Oak Ridges. This beautiful campus is situated on 700 acres of forest. We will be camping out in the forest on a designated camp site established for use by the Outdoor Recreation department at Seneca (there is 24hr. Security on the campus).
This is a gold/silver level practice trip and a bronze qualifying trip. Bronze participants should arrive prepared, and possess the ability to satisfactorily demonstrate your experience of the following Hiking and Camping Skills:

~ map and compass work ~ site selection
~ first aid and safety ~ clothing and equipment
~ cooking ~ wilderness code of behavior

The intent of activity is to qualify you at your bronze level or prepare you for your silver / gold journey so please come prepared as you would for a longer trip. If you are hiking bring a backpack / daypack filled with your sleeping bag, clothing and any camping equipment you may have. You should also be wearing the same shoes and similar clothing that you will be during the overnight.
What to bring: Please refer to Clothing list that will be provided for you. Also bring your Blue record book, any extra snacks , sun-screen, water to drink, and cash or a cheque made out to Seneca College for the appropriate amount (depending on the duration of the qualifying trip). Please dress for the weather. We will participate rain or shine. Seneca will provide you with the necessary items if you do not have them
