Peace Keeper Park Summer Camp 2005
Peacekeeper Park
From July 09 to 24, sixty-eight campers (youth with disabilities) attended a summer adventure camp at Peacekeeper Park near Aylmer , Ontario . The camp was staffed by 37 volunteers of which 24 were DEA participants from Trinidad , Jamaica , Mexico and Ontario at camp completing their Residential. Everyone had an amazing time, made wonderful friendships and saw many magical moments including wheelchairs being left on the beach or at the bottom of the abseil tower while watching youth challenge themselves.
Reflections
My initial objective for volunteering at Peacekeeper Park Adventure Camp was to complete my residential project for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold level. I wanted to help out a good cause and I felt that this would be a meaningful way to spend my time, but I saw this as just a fringe benefit. I did not expect to really make a difference.

Those two weeks turned out to be more than our residential trip. It was a place were the little things that I did or said changed a child’s’ life. It made them that bit happier for that week. Also, I developed friendships that would normally have taken years to become that close. I would rather say I gained a couple of sisters. We became so close in so little time!! Imagine where our relationship would be if we all grew up together? That was an outstanding two weeks of my life. It was very intense and peaceful at the same time. Through many trials and tribulations that everyone over came, it was a time to remember!!

After participating with the PKP camp I am forever impacted with the lives of the campers and their daily struggles that were shared with us. But more than anything, I was amazed at how I could possibly create a friendship with so many people; a bond that will never be forgotten about that will last a lifetime. And we did that in just two weeks. Those two weeks at PKP Adventure camp were two of the most unforgettable and phenomenal weeks of my life! Experiences that I will not forget.
