Cadets & the Award

The Canadian Armed Forces and The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award – Canada share a common interest in encouraging young people to become active and responsible members of their communities. In September 2017, the two organizations signed a national Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) encouraging Award divisions and Cadet programs across Canada to collaborate to serve young people.

Cadets and Junior Rangers can use some of their program activities towards the Award. Participants are not restricted to only Cadet/Junior Ranger activities, and may also choose to use other activities they participate in their schools or communities in their Award design.

Like all other participants, Cadets and Junior Rangers must adhere to the requirements of the Award and its framework, which include setting clear SMART goals.

Not all program activities count towards the Award. Check the list of equivalencies agreed upon by the Canadian Armed Forces and the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award – Canada in the related links.
