Adventurous Journey Bursary Application

Funded by RBC Open for Gold, this bursary is designed specifically to help participants complete their Gold Adventurous Journey where cost may be a barrier and discourage them from completing their Gold Award. Each bursary is $250 per participant and the Adventurous Journey must take place between January 1 and October 31, 2020.

Applicants (aka Participants) complete the application form and submit it to their Division for review. If the Adventurous Journey meets Award standards, the Division then forwards the application to the National Office for bursary approval. If approved, the National Office will follow up directly with the applicant (including payment).

Only 12 applications from each Division will be approved with additional applications from the Division added to a national waitlist. The bursary application window will be open from February 19, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Should each Division fulfil their 12 spots, earlier than June 30th the application window will be closed.

If there are remaining division bursaries, they will be offered to those participants on the national waitlist. Participants who may be planning their Adventurous Journey which will happen later in the year, may apply for this bursary but will be required to provide proof of registration.

  • Applicants must be registered (i.e. signed up) for their Gold Award.
  • Applications are for individual applicants, not Award Centres as a whole.
  • The Adventurous Journey does not have to be completed before applying however it must be planned to be completed by October 31, 2020.
  • These funds should help young people from the following communities: General population, women, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, underserved populations, indigenous, LGTB+, newcomers, low socio-economic status, rural and remote individuals.
Applicants should ensure that the Adventurous Journey section is up to date in the Online Record Book (ORB) before submitting their application – especially those Adventurous Journeys which have already concluded.

Open for Gold is an initiative developed with support from the RBC Future Launch program. Support from RBC enables
the Award to invest in more resources to help young Canadians complete their Awards.
