Jeff Needham

Executive Director

Jeff started with the Award in June 2005 and has served as the Executive Director since 2015. Jeff obtained his Political Science degree from McGill University.  Jeff brings a variety of experience to the Award, including international development, outdoor retail, and the operation of a guiding company in Ontario. For the past several years Jeff has been a volunteer for the United World Colleges.  Jeff enjoys playing hockey and soccer, surfing, restoring classic cars, and travelling. Jeff's leisure time is spent having fun with his family and he hopes to inspire his son to enjoy outdoor pursuits as much as he does!
Laura Cogill

Award Officer - Eastern Ontario (M Postal Code)

Prior to joining the Ontario staff, Laura was already familiar with the Award and its positive impact on young people. She is a Silver Award Achiever and now volunteers as a dedicated Award Leader with a local Ranger group.  She has earned a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto, and MBA from Queen’s University.  In her spare time Laura enjoys performing Japanese dance, travelling, and working on her camping skills. She feels privileged to be a part of young peoples’ Award experience and especially enjoys supporting youth through their Adventurous Journeys. Even her own daughter and son are working on the Award!

Donna has been involved in the Award for over ten years.  She served as an Award Leader for several years before joining the Ontario staff.  Donna earned her Master’s in Music from the University of North Texas and taught music at the university and high school level for 23 years.  Donna now conducts the Toronto New Horizons Band.  She is passionate about swimming and lifesaving and teaches aquatic leadership on the weekends.  She and her son and their menagerie of pets love living in the country.  Her interests include knitting, gardening, and reading.

Karen has been working for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for the past 12 years.  She is based out of the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa with a specific focus on working with youth with disabilities and those youth who are new to Canada. Karen has a keen interest in the outdoors and staying fit. In her spare time, she enjoys playing soccer, swimming, cycling and skiing. Living the spirit of the Award, Karen can’t say no to a volunteer opportunity! Karen is married with two daughters who require regular drives to arenas and swimming pools!

With over 20 years of experience in fund raising and a certificate in Project Management, Lorraine brings to the team, a thorough understanding of the principles of fundraising and social marketing, along with a contagious passion and commitment to youth development. Lorraine uses her past experiences to continuously enhance the Award’s fundraising and marketing strategies.

Camille is a graduate of Media and Communications at Humber College.  As a well-traveled individual Camille is always up for a journey. In her free time, Camille enjoys playing soccer and hockey and is intrigued and captivated by good graphic design and effective public relations.

Award Officer - Southwestern Ontario (N Postal Code)

Laura joined the Ontario staff in 2017 and is based out of Craigwood Youth Services in London, Ontario.  She is passionate about experiential education and helping youth find the tools they need to challenge themselves and contribute to their communities. Laura has a history in outdoor education/summer camp and is continually seeking ways to expand her leadership and facilitation skills. She is passionate about yoga, gardening, and exploring the outdoors. Laura loves finding new ways to be active and travelling to far off places to explore natural sites.
