Award Ceremonies

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Canada is pleased to announce the following Gold Ceremony:

Saturday, December 12, 2020
We are very excited to announce Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario will host a Virtual Gold Ceremony in the afternoon of Saturday, December 12, 2020.

What is a Virtual Ceremony?
The Virtual Gold Ceremony is a new concept. We want to acknowledge your achievements at the highest levels despite the restrictions imposed on us by Covid-19. We believe this event can combine the recognition you deserve with the unique nature of an in-person Gold Award presentation.  Two key benefits of this approach will be the ability to have more than two guests and receiving a special Award Box. The Award Box will include your Gold Award Certificate as well as other items to celebrate your amazing accomplishment as a Gold Award Achiever.

Past Ceremonies

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Canada is delighted to announce that the Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners of Canada will begin presenting Gold Awards at Gold Ceremonies.
The Lieutenant Governors and Commissioners have been our strongest and most consistent supporters throughout the years. This improvement to the Gold Ceremony experience recognizes their commitment to the Award and enhancing the link between future leaders in our communities and the representatives of the Crown.

The potential for many annual Gold Ceremonies will increase the accessibility of Award ceremonies to young people and their families across the whole of Canada. It will provide young Award Achievers with the special opportunity to have a meaningful interaction with a representative of their community and the Crown, which has always been a unique aspect of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s commitment to young people who undertake the Award.

Please note that the Governor General and the Royal Family remain passionate supporters of the Award and could potentially still present Gold Awards in addition to Gold Ceremonies presented by a Lieutenant Governor or Commissioner. We are looking forward to working with the Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners of Canada to recognize our Gold Award Achievers in a timely ceremony that provides an ever-lasting memory to them and their families.
