The Award operates in all ten provinces and three territories of Canada. Each area of the country is organized into regional divisions. On the local level, our regional divisions receive support from many small businesses, legions, service clubs, and individuals, who are looking for a way to give back to the community. Offering support on the local level is very rewarding. You see first-hand how your support is giving local youth the opportunity to challenge themselves and live the achievement of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

As a supporter, your donation provides Canadian youth the opportunity to face new experiences, develop confidence and create healthy and active individuals through their participation in the Award program.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can support the Award Program, please contact your local office or if you would like more information on becoming an Ontario sponsor please contact the National Office or email acosta@dukeofed.org.

Annual Giving

Annual Giving provides The Duke of Edinburgh's Award with the funds required to ensure that all young people across the Province, regardless of social, economic or geographical background, have the opportunity to participate in the program. It is thanks to the on-going generosity of corporate and private donors, foundations and service organizations,
that the Award is able to provide the necessary support to the hard to serve and hard-to-reach communities, ensuring that leaders and volunteers are well trained, who in turn can support participants as they set their own goals and work towards achieving them in a safe and supportive environment.

Hermant Legacy Endowment Fund

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Ontario Endowment Fund, also known as The Hermant Legacy Fund, was created to honour our long-standing Executive Director, Jill Hermant.  She started working for the Award in 1993 and inspired countless young people over the years. Jill retired in 2015 after 23 years of outstanding leadership and dedication.

As a tribute to her impact in Ontario, we have established a permanent Endowment Fund. The proceeds from this Fund will be dedicated to maintaining and growing our programmeand ensuring that it remains accessible to all youth regardless of any socio-economic barriers.

Due to her remarkable commitment and leadership, our organization has experienced incredible growth during her 23 years working for the Award. Here are some examples:

This represents a 585% increase in registered participants and a more than 650% increase in Award achievers!

Jill's character and ability has contributed to more than 80,000 youth being impacted by The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

The Fund is managed by the Toronto Foundation and the income from this Fund will be used to support our program across the province.

Selfless 16 Partnership

The Duke of Ed is proud to partner with Selfless 16™, an initiative founded by Award Achiever Soheila Mosun. Selfless 16 is an inspirational youth movement that has quickly captured the attention of youth and educators. Armed with the desire to drive awareness for community causes and to encourage self-reflection amongst her peers, Soheila started Selfless 16.

With the help of its ambassadors, Selfless 16 is inspiring and encouraging young adults to give back to their communities through a milestone event in their lives – their sixteenth birthday. Selfless 16 believes that celebrating one’s sixteenth birthday is not only a time of celebration but also a time for self-reflection. It is when a young adult starts to think about what is truly valuable in life, what kind of an adult one wants to become, and what positive impact one wants to make in the world.

Selfless 16 celebrations can be celebrated throughout the year and there will be annual celebrations hosted by high schools, families, and friends all over the world. Get involved with your school, Duke of Ed group or just with a group of friends and earn hours towards your Duke of Ed Award.
