David's Story
Silver Award Achiever
Meet David Hall from Calgary!
Since I started this journey to achieve The Duke of
Edinburgh’s International Award, I have been focused on completing it! I began
volunteering with Youth Central and then decided to start the Award program.
I love going to the Calgary Drop In Center where I help
prepare and serve meals. I also spend time at Spruce Lodge, a senior’s home,
where I help with monthly birthday parties and other fun events! At Christmas
time I also help the Salvation Army by ringing the bells in malls! My volunteer
experiences allow me to help my city and it makes me happy to give back.
For my skill I take yoga with my Mom every week – it helps
my strength and flexibility a lot!
I take part in Special Olympics Track and Field and fitness
programs and ride my bike a lot for my physical activity component. In July
2017 I will be competing in the Provincial Special Olympics Track meet in
Medicine Hat – that will be awesome!
My adventure journey was with my Dad and we camped and hiked
near Field, BC.. It takes me a bit longer to hike distances but it was a great
experience and we saw some beautiful scenery as well. I enjoy exploring nature
and learning about the history behind it all.
In 2013 I was one of 5 Canadians who was awarded the
Canadian Down Syndrome Hero award – that was an honor!
In my spare time I take art classes, and I have worked at my
neighbourhood Starbucks as a café assistant for 9 years! I also love to
contribute to IMDB and Wikipedia and take care of my Golden Retriever.
