Maj Marie-Josée Beaulieu, Life after the Award

Marie-Josée Beaulieu is a Gold Award Holder (2000) from Baie-Comeau (Québec) who currently resides in Ottawa. She completed all three levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program as a teenager, through the Air Cadets League of Canada. Her favorite memory of the program was completion of the Véloroute des Bleuets circuit, which circles Lac St-Jean on a 256-km bicycle pathway, crossing fifteen municipalities including the Montagnais community of Mashteuiash.

This was a challenging and fulfilling Adventurous Journey that she completed with her brother, whereby both had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture and nature. In 2005, Marie-Josée was selected as a Canadian delegate to the International Gold Event (IGE) in Hong Kong, where she represented Canadian views on the control of HIV and AIDS. While at the IGE, she was selected as a Youth Representative of the International Award Council for the Americas region. Some of her favorite memories during her volunteer work with the Award included connecting with Award Holders from around the world, presenting a gift to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh in 2006, celebrating the Award’s 50th Anniversary and connecting with young Canadian participants during LEAD 2016 leadership camp in Canada. Marie-Josée joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 1996. She has received a Bachelor of Arts in French Literature and a Masters in Defence Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. She is also a graduate of CAF’s Joint Command and Staff Program. Marie-Josée is an Army Logistics officer, with specialty qualifications in Contracting, Supply Chain Management, Host Nation Support and Human Resources Management. In 2004, she was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Canada’s contribution to the NATO’s International Security Assistance Force mission. Later in 2013-2014, she was deployed to Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, as part of Canada’s contribution to United States’ Assistance to the Palestinian Authorities. Marie-Josée remains a lifelong supporter of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
