We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of The Honourable Hilary M. Weston, C.M., C.V.O., O.Ont., who served as Ontario’s 26th Lieutenant Governor from 1997 to 2002.
A visionary leader and tireless advocate for youth, volunteerism, and the arts, Mrs. Weston played a significant role in advancing the mission of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Canada.
During her tenure as Lieutenant Governor, she served as Provincial Chair of the Award in Ontario, where she personally championed the power of the Award to transform the lives of young Canadians from all backgrounds.
Her support for the Award extended well beyond her viceregal term. As Ontario Provincial Chair, she witnessed firsthand the program’s life-changing impact. In the years that followed, she remained a steadfast and generous advocate, attending events, uplifting young participants, and supporting the Award through personal philanthropy and continued engagement.
We are profoundly grateful for her dedication to our mission. Her legacy of compassion, leadership, and belief in the potential of youth will continue to inspire us for years to come.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her children, Alannah and Galen, her extended family, and all those whose lives were touched by her remarkable life and service.
