Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement

Our Commitment

At the Award, we know that supporting diversity, equity and inclusion is crucial to our journey of growth and development. This commitment is woven into our mission and vision and is the tenant of how we operate as an organization. We are at our strongest when we embrace the full spectrum of humanity, regardless of what we look like, where we come from, our ability or who we love. That means both building a more equitable workplace and promoting courageous engagement both internally with staff, and externally in the communities we serve and the partnerships with whom we collaborate.

Each of us has a role to play in advancing this commitment. It requires summoning the courage to share opinions and ideas. It can also mean listening with empathy and creating an environment conducive to respectful dialogue. For all of us, it means being self-reflective, being curious of different perspectives and most importantly appreciating and celebrating one another’s contributions to our Award community. In doing so, we will ensure that the Award in Canada continues to thrive in the coming years and beyond.

The Award is a neutral and adaptable tool that can be used by all communities across Canada. As an organization we aim to connect and collaborate with diverse communities, and support equitable and inclusive programming to ensure that young people in Canada from all backgrounds and life circumstances are equipped to succeed in life.

We invite leaders and community members who work with young people to partner with us to bring about impact and change. We commit to engaging in purposeful conversations that will ensure all young people can elevate themselves through the Award and benefit from the experiential learning and development it fosters.

As a commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Award intends to:

We are committed to continuing to grow the network of diverse communities in which the Award is delivered. We are aiming to ensure that all young people and the communities in which they live can benefit from our experiential learning framework and can thrive in our ever-changing world.  Our strategic planning will be guided by our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We are committed to ensure we are continually working internally to bring access to learnings for our network of staff, volunteers, and partners on allyship, diversity, equity, and inclusion. By providing learning opportunities, we will ensure that the Award is continuing to evolve and grow to better meet the needs of our partners, young people, and communities.

We are committed to continue creating a beneficial working environment for all staff. We aim to celebrate that every individual is different and should feel comfortable bringing their true selves to work so they can show up authentically every day for their coworkers, communities, and partners we serve.
