Award Canada is thrilled to spotlight two transformative gatherings that took place this June & July: the Atlantic Canada Education Forum in Charlottetown and the Ontario Education Leadership Gathering in Toronto. These events convened education leaders, government partners, and youth to advance a shared vision embedding the Award framework into public education systems across Canada.
What made these forums truly historic was the presence of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Chairman of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation. The Duke’s participation underscored the global significance of this work and affirmed the growing momentum behind the Award’s Co-curricular Approach, a model that empowers educators to amplify student impact through experiential learning.
In Ontario, we were also honoured by the presence of The Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, whose support further elevated the province’s commitment to youth development and educational equity.
The accompanying press release captures the full story: new partnerships with school boards and colleges, a strategic shift toward system-level integration, and the national impact of the Award’s growth. With over 11,000 young people participating last year and more than 1,400 adult mentors guiding them, the Award is not just expanding, it’s transforming how we define and support student success.
At the heart of this transformation are educators. The Award framework is a powerful tool designed to support teachers in delivering meaningful, real-world learning experiences that complement classroom instruction. By integrating the Award into school systems, we’re equipping educators to help students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose, skills that last a lifetime.
