Career Class

Celebrate your career exploration during Careers class! Take Careers class to a national level by setting goals and reflecting on your Career discovery to achieve Bronze with Award CanadaThroughout your course experience you will have the opportunity to also earn your Portfolio, Leadership, Project Management or Advanced Training in a Technology mirco-certification(s), all while becoming an Award Canada achievement holder.

How you can link your Career class experiences with Award Canada:

Example SMART Goal: During Career Class, I will improve my understanding of future career opportunities, communication, and collaboration skills by completing career exploration activities, selecting a career of interest, building a portfolio. I will do 1 hour a week to complete each activity and track my progress through feedback and documentation.

Example log for ORB: Today I participated in a career exploration activity where I learned about how to work in the trades. I am new to understanding apprenticeships.  I am now interested in co-op.

Example SMART Goal: Over the next 13 weeks, I will improve my cardio and flexibility to stay healthy during gym class. I will stretch legs, arms, back, hands, fingers and increase my walking distance in Phys ed. to build up to more than 2 hours per week.

Example log for ORB: Today’s Phys. Ed class focused on basic safety to avoid injuries when improving distance running. I learned knowledge and skills to stretch before long walks and runs.

Each trade with a red seal number has a National Occupational Classification, with components that outline physical need) e.g. Body Position, Limb Co-ordination, Strength training

Service Example SMART Goal: Over the next 13 weeks, I will complete my volunteer hours by planning and hosting elementary workshops to inspire students to learn about a career in construction.  I will build starter kits that students can work from to assemble and paint bird houses.

Example log for ORB: Today, I volunteered at my old elementary school, showing grade 7s how to use hand tools. I learned that so many of them have never used a tool before.  This experience reinforced my commitment to sharing opportunities in trades.

Example Activity:  Get ready to explore careers in your local community.  Do research on businesses and companies in your area. Then, come up with a route to meet and have conversations with business owners about how they got started. 

Example Assessor or Supervisor: Industry Partner facilitating or hosting walking tour.
