On the evening of Friday, April 11, 2025, Award Canada hosted a moving and memorable celebration at BMO First Canadian Place in Toronto to recognize our outstanding community at a special Award Celebration: King Charles III Coronation Medal & Gold Award Ceremony. Held in the presence of Her Honour, The Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the evening brought together community leaders, changemakers, and youth achievers for a night of recognition and reflection.
Hosted by Award Canada CEO Stephen De-Wint, the event opened with the arrival of the Vice-Regal Party, followed by heartfelt remarks from Her Honour. Her words set a tone of pride and gratitude for the contributions being celebrated—from national service to personal growth.
This celebration also marked one of De-Wint’s final public appearances as CEO, as he prepares to step down in early May. His leadership has been instrumental in expanding the Award’s impact and reach across Canada, and his presence at the event served as a fitting farewell among the community he has so passionately championed.
King Charles III Coronation Medal Presentation
In a proud moment for the Award community, King Charles III Coronation Medals were presented to 20 recipients at the event, with those in attendance coming from the Toronto area. These recipients were recognized for their exceptional dedication to youth development and volunteerism through the Award in Canada. They are part of a broader group of recipients being honoured across the country, all of whom have gone above and beyond to support young people in reaching their full potential. From long-time Award Leaders to community champions, they exemplify the spirit of service the Coronation Medal was created to celebrate.

Gold Award Presentation
The evening continued with the presentation of the Gold Award to 21 young people. Earning a Gold Award is a remarkable achievement, representing a multi-year journey of service, skill development, physical activity, and leadership. This year’s recipients have shown commitment to personal growth and have made meaningful contributions to their communities through various projects and challenges.
Each Gold Award recipient has demonstrated resilience and purpose, building what Award Canada Chair Amy Langhorne refers to as “power skills”—such as time management, teamwork, empathy, and critical thinking. These are the very qualities that communities need and employers value.
In her remarks, Langhorne—herself a Gold Award alumna—shared that the Award is more than a framework: “It’s the foundation of a life lived with purpose.” Her words highlighted the spirit of the evening—celebrating achievements while looking ahead to the future with optimism.
In total, 120 guests were in attendance, including recipients, their families and loved ones, and members of the Award Canada community. The atmosphere was vibrant—filled with applause, proud smiles, and emotional moments shared by those who supported each recipient’s journey.
For me, completing the Award was a journey of growth. Taking part helped me grow in every aspect of life, pushing me to become better through engaging with my community, developing new skills, and consistently going outside my comfort zone. The Award is a reminder that meaningful progress always comes with persistent effort and the determination to never give up.
– Annabelle, Gold Award Recipient
Award Canada extends its deepest congratulations to all recipients—and gratitude to the community that surrounds them. Whether receiving a Coronation Medal or completing the Gold Award, each recipient represents what it means to lead with purpose, give back generously, and embrace growth.
