Canadian Award Holders- Mira Buckle

Mira Buckle is a Gold Award Holder (2021) from Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador whose parents encouraged her to do the Award.

The Award gave Mira a head start in achieving her goals and during her completion of the Gold Award, she applied for a Passion to Purpose grant to create a film, targeting students in grades 4-6, that addresses potential issues using technology and informing students about being safe and positive online. The themes covered are privacy, communicating positively, being a critical thinker on what you see and read online and enjoying real life outside the digital world.

As a member of Qalipu First Nation, Mira is committed to cultural revitalization.  She plans to complete her second film in the summer of 2022 that will highlight Indigenous youth telling their stories of how they connect with their culture.

Mira is currently a TD Scholar and student at University of Ottawa studying Political Science and French Immersion. She is founder and member of the Corner Brook Youth Advisory Committee and member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Premier’s Youth Council.

Completing the Gold Award through Covid-19 was challenging and required an adjustment in completing specific skills. Despite the challenges, Mira discovered that when an original plan is interrupted, be open to finding other ways of reaching your goal.
