As the landscape of education continues to evolve, so too must the tools we use to prepare young people for the future. That’s why, on June 26th senior education officials from Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick will gather for the Atlantic Canada Education Forum, a pivotal event hosted by Award Canada.
This forum isn’t just another meeting. It’s a bold step toward transforming how we support student development across Atlantic Canada. At the heart of the conversation is Award Canada’s Co-curricular Approach – a strategic initiative to embed The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award framework into public education systems in a way that is scalable, inclusive, and aligned with provincial education priorities. This approach is creating new opportunities for more young people to benefit from meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
The Award’s impact is driven by the commitment and leadership of educators who bring the framework to life in classrooms, schools, and communities. Through the Award Canada Way, we champion purposeful engagement and youth agency, supporting young people to set meaningful goals, reflect on their growth, and develop progressively with the guidance of caring mentors making the Award a deeply integrated and transformative part of each student’s learning journey.
Why Now? Supporting Schools Where It Matters Most
The demand for holistic education has never been more urgent. As schools navigate complex challenges including student well-being, engagement, and preparation for life beyond graduation the Award provides a proven framework to help address them.
Forum Goals at a Glance
The forum will bring together key voices in education to:
- Share insights on current challenges and opportunities
- Explore how the Award can support system-wide goals
- Strengthen partnerships between Award Canada and public education authorities
- Inspire collective action to expand access across Grades 9–12
