A Day of Hands-On Exploration
There was a palpable energy at Fanshawe College as 110 young women from seven neighbouring school boards stepped onto campus for Jill of All Trades — a day designed to explore what’s possible in the skilled trades. From automotive to sheet metal, participants engaged in hands-on experiences that introduced new possibilities for their futures. The event is built for students in grades 9 through 12, giving them a chance to try things for themselves and talk with the women already working in those fields.
Participants spent the day rotating through workshops, connecting with mentors, and hearing from speakers whose experiences brought these pathways to life. Thank you to Susan Cluett, Candice White, Councillor Corrine Rahman, and Laura Briscoe for sharing your insight and inspiring the next generation. Beyond the activities, the day was about building confidence, trying something new, and seeing what’s possible.

Celebrating a Milestone
This year’s event marks an important milestone. Fanshawe College — the first college in Canada to become an Education Operating Partner with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award — pinned its first cohort of Women in Red Seal Skilled Trades to celebrate their Bronze Award.

Congratulations to Holly Venter, Lillian Ramdeen, and Jordyn Marno, who received their pins, with Holly already registered to begin her Silver Award. As emerging leaders, they demonstrate what’s possible when young people are supported to pursue their goals. A huge thank you to Stephen Patterson, Britney Hunter, Ruth Lebelo-Almaw, and the entire Fanshawe team for making the day possible. To the first Bronze cohort — congratulations. You’re already inspiring the cohort behind you, and the future of skilled trades in Canada looks bright.
