Example SMART Goal: I’m joining the wheelchair basketball program at the community center! My plan is to practice for an hour each week over 13 weeks, focusing on building my stamina and improving my shooting accuracy.

Example Assessor: Community center coach or recreation program coordinator

Example Log: Worked on dribbling while moving today. It’s way harder in a chair than it looks! Got better at controlling my speed through the cones. Next session I’m focusing on my chest passes.

Example SMART Goal: I want to really understand the game, so I’m dedicating an hour each week to studying basketball strategy. I’ll watch game footage, learn about different defensive systems, and apply what I learn at practice.

Example Assessor: School coach, club coach, or community center staff

Example Log: Watched a breakdown video on zone vs. man-to-man defense today. Finally understand why our coach keeps yelling about staying in position! Trying to spot these plays in the next game I watch.

Example SMART Goal: I love basketball and want to give back! I’m volunteering an hour each week at the community center, helping with game-day operations like admissions and scorekeeping. I’ll track what I learn about running events.

Example Assessor: Community center coordinator or volunteer supervisor

Example Log: Ran the admissions table for tonight’s adult league games. Learned how to handle the cash box and check memberships. The atmosphere was amazing and everyone was so supportive! Trying scorekeeping next week.

(Completed as a team. Participants will work together to plan and complete their journey.)

Example Team Goal: Our team will compete in at least 2 games, document our experience with photos and reflections, and create a presentation about what we learned about inclusive sports and teamwork.

Example Assessor/Supervisor: Coach, recreation coordinator, or Award Leader
