Example SMART Goal: Badminton is way more intense than people think! For 13 weeks, I’m playing at least an hour each week at the community center, focusing on my footwork and overhead smash. I want to win more rallies by the end!

Example Assessor: Gym teacher, club coach, or recreation center staff

Example Log: Played 3 games today and won 2! My overhead clear is getting more consistent. Noticed I’m still flat-footed on returns though. Working on staying on my toes and being ready to move next time.

Example SMART Goal: I’m going to learn the rules and scoring for different racquet sports. Each week for 13 weeks, I’ll spend time studying tennis, badminton, and pickleball rules, and practice officiating games.

Example Assessor: Coach, physical education teacher, or sports club coordinator

Example Log: Learned tennis scoring today (love, 15, 30, 40, deuce, advantage. So weird!). Watched a match and practiced keeping score. Volunteering to umpire a school match next week.

Example SMART Goal: Our school needs help with sports equipment! I’m volunteering an hour each week organizing the equipment room, maintaining racquets, and helping set up courts for intramurals.

Example Assessor: Physical education teacher or athletic department staff

Example Log: Organized all the badminton racquets and replaced 4 worn grips today. Also untangled the nets and checked for holes. The gym teacher was really grateful! Inventory count next week.

(Completed as a team. Participants will work together to plan and complete their journey.)

Example Activity: Take a racquet sports road trip! Visit different courts and clubs in your area, outdoor tennis courts, indoor badminton facilities, and the growing number of pickleball venues. Try each sport!

Example Team Goal: Our team will visit at least 4 different racquet sport venues, play a game at each location, interview players or staff about the sport’s popularity, and create a beginner’s guide to local racquet sports.

Example Assessor/Supervisor: Coach, teacher, or Award Leader
