Developing Skills, Jayde’s Award Story

Jayde is a Bronze and Silver Award Achiever and a Gold Participant from Quebec. Her Award was done as an independent participant through the Virtual Award Centre. Jayde developed an interest for working with youth with special needs through the skill and service.

Skill

Jayde’s skills were diverse for each level, starting with developing Viola skills for the Bronze and Silver levels. Jayde was able to develop a new set of SMART goals during this time. Driving was the activity for Gold which helped Jayde stay motivated to becoming comfortable behind the wheel.

Service

Jayde’s volunteer experience was unique and straightening her passion for influencing youth with special needs. For the Bronze level Jayde served in a soup kitchen in Ottawa. For Silver and Bronze Jayde volunteered with youth with special needs and disabilities. They would spend time reading stories and the progress was influential for both parties. Jayde was empowered by seeing the student grow to have the ability to read up to 10 pages at a time! And the youth felt empowered that all their work had been working up to this accomplishment.

“The Award has encouraged me to put myself out there and take charge when its needed and helped me adapt to different situations” Jayde

Physical

Jayde studied and practiced Tae Kwon Do for each level of the Award. Each year progressed her skills, goals, and achievements. Bronze started out with competition sparring team training and stretching practice. During Silver she continued to competition training but also was introduced to teaching. The Gold Award continued with teaching, and she was able to share her passion with younger athletes while working towards her goal of earning a medal at the Canadian National Championships. During this time, she also became a second-degree black belt.
