Call for Expressions of Interest

Award Canada is inviting expressions of interest for the Director-at-Large (Youth & Alumni) position on the Board of Directors. 

About the Role

The Director-at-Large (Youth & Alumni) brings youth and alumni perspectives to the Board of Directors while supporting national efforts to strengthen alumni engagement. This leadership position helps ensure that the Award remains relevant, credible, and connected to the experiences of young people and alumni across Canada. 

Key Responsibilities 

As Director-at-Large (Youth & Alumni), you will: 

  • Provide strategic input to the Board through the lens of youth and alumni experience. 
  • Actively champion alumni engagement and youth voice within the Award ecosystem. 
  • Chair and support the Youth & Alumni Cabinet, helping to convene and mobilize peers nationally. 
  • Represent the Award publicly in a credible, authentic, and values-aligned manner. 

Who We’re Looking For 

We are seeking individuals aged 19-28*, who demonstrate: 

  • A strong connection to the Award as a youth or alumnus/alumna, with a passion for giving back. 
  • The energy and credibility to engage and inspire peers across Canada. 
  • Confidence serving as a visible ambassador and spokesperson for the Award. 
  • A hands-on, contribution-oriented mindset focused on impact and delivery. 

Gold and Silver Award Holders are particularly encouraged to consider this opportunity. 

Please note that the Board and its committees conduct business in English. Applicants must therefore be comfortable participating fully in English. Bilingualism (English/French) is considered a strong asset.  

*Exceptional candidates aged 18 may be considered. 

Time Commitment & Term 

This is a volunteer Board role with a fixed term of 3 years. The Director-at-Large is expected to prepare for and attend Board meetings, actively lead their portfolio, and contribute meaningfully between meetings to achieving the Alumni strategy and mandate.

How to Express Interest 

Interested individuals are invited to submit an Expression of Interest outlining their background, connection to the Award, and motivation to serve. Applicants may also include a short video sharing why they are interested in the role and what excites them about helping shape the future of the Award.  

Award leaders are also encouraged to nominate or refer individuals who demonstrate strong leadership potential. Nominations may include a brief statement or short video describing why the candidate would be well suited for the role.  

All appointments follow established governance and nomination processes. Expressions of interest will be accepted until April 27, 2026.
