Building your Award:

Review the example goal, Assessor and reflection to help you build your Gold Project

For my Gold Project, I will complete advanced Cadet training and extend its impact to my community: prepare by meeting all prerequisites, completing required fitness standards, and studying course materials, participate fully in my 6-week Glider Pilot Training course by completing all ground school, simulator training, and flight hours required for my glider pilot license, then give back by becoming a volunteer instructor at my local squadron, mentoring junior cadets, and presenting my aviation journey at 2 local schools to inspire youth interest in aerospace careers.

Cadet training officer, squadron commanding officer, or course instructor

Earning my glider pilot license at 16 was the hardest thing I’ve ever done and the most rewarding. Ground school taught me that aviation demands precision. There’s no ‘good enough’ when you’re responsible for an aircraft. My first solo flight was terrifying and exhilarating; I remember the silence when my instructor got out and I realized everything was up to me. I learned that confidence comes from competence, which comes from practice and study. The unexpected lesson was about teaching: when I started instructing junior cadets, I discovered that explaining concepts to others deepened my own understanding. Presenting at local schools showed me how powerful representation can be. A Grade 6 student told me she never thought someone who looked like her could be a pilot. That comment reminded me why sharing our journeys matters.
