#InfinitePotential Mission – conquering the mountain of infinite potential.

TORONTO, Canada – On July 2nd, 2023, a group of young people from Quebec will be departing to undertake an adventure of a lifetime by ascending to the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro in support of the 60th Anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award- Canada and bring awareness to the infinite potential of young people.

Led by Thoman Morin-Cabana, 25 from Gatineau Quebec, who is a Gold Award Achiever of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, this group of young people will begin their 5-day ascent to the world’s fourth largest peak to continue living the ethos of the experiential learning Framework of the Award, by stepping out of their comfort zone and continue building their infinite potential. Since early 2022, this group of young people began training for this experience which is themed around the 4 pillars of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award framework: community service, physical recreation, adventurous journey, and skill development. In keeping with the ethos of the Award, over the past year, these young people set goals in preparation for this challenge. They connected with adult mentors (one of which is also an Award Alumni and who ascended Mt. Kilimanjaro as part of their Award journey) to ensure they stayed on track to achieving their goals.

“Getting ready for this climb is like a dream! There’s a mixture of nervousness and excitement, of course, but I’m leaving with a clear head, thanks to my wonderful team and mentors. Getting this far despite all the adversity, challenges, and hardships we faced, makes this mission a success. It proves that young people can achieve anything they set their mind to!” – Thomas Morin-Cabana

Upon finishing the ascent, Thomas and his group will travel to Kenya for 4 days connect with Kenyan young people who are currently pursuing The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and giving back to local communities. In collaboration with a film crew and several partners, this personal project is being led by young people, to benefit young people, and will be filmed to capture their accomplishments.
